Sri Lanka Tourism launches Sancharaka Udawa

Sri Lanka’s tourism industry is launching its key travel mart in Colombo the Sancharaka Udawa considered timely as the country hopes to pull itself out of the economic abyss through the travelers visiting the island.

It is time to do this even now, Sri Lanka Association of Inbound Tour Operators (SLAITO) President Nishard Wijetunge said at the recent launch of the 10th edition of the Sancharaka Udawa event at the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce.

He noted that this year the event will be held on a larger scale compared to its mini-mart type approach last time. The event is scheduled to be held from May 19-20 at the Sirimavo Bandaranaike Memorial Hall of the BMICH.

Joint Exhibition Organiser Imran Hassan highlighting the event’s success through the years spoke of its journey even when the Easter attacks happened adding that this is a fully-fledged exhibition providing an opportunity for the less exposed entrepreneurs in tourism and the outbound travel agents as well to meet and interact with tourism stakeholders.

Some of the new highlights of the event will be the presence of the outbound global tour operators alongside a cultural event and the SLAITO Special General Meeting on the first day of the event. The second day will be open to the public.

Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau Chairman Chalaka Gajabahu extended their complete support for the event and noted that today “there’s sanity in the country.” He compared the time with last year when everything was put on hold and noted that the Sancharaka Udawa can be made a global event in time to come.
