Sigiriya Rock Fortress ~ Lion's Rock

The mysterious rocky outcrop of Sigiriya, which rises dramatically from the central plains, is arguably Sri Lanka’s most impressive sight. In the early morning, there are mesmerizing views across mist-wrapped forests, and near-vertical walls soar to a flat-topped summit that contains the ruins of an ancient civilization that is thought to have once been the center of the brief kingdom of Kassapa.
